Here are some music releases to consider for October 7,
Also included are collaborations with Cannonball Adderley, Hal McKusick, Bill Potts, Charles Mingus, Tony Scott, and the Prestige All Star Workshop. No complete albums are included but what is here shows very clearly just how good, and stimulating, Bill Evans was as band pianist/5(4).

In actuality Evans and Adderley, removed from the guiding force of Miles, have little in common with one another; Evans was certainly the most important ingredient in the modal experiments of Kind of Blue, but Adderley seemed more at home in the hard bop of Milestones. Evans tries to give his comping more punch to compensate for Adderley’s.
The iconic "Waltz for Debby" opens the album with Evans' lovely, florid piano setting the stage for Adderley's brilliantly swinging sax. Adderley keeps his tone warm, adding only a few harder-blown notes for color, and Evans returns the favor by playing a fluid solo whose swing is /5(34).
As a Bill Evans fan, I'm already covered up in "Waltz for Debby" renditions and thought this track would be a throw-away, especially since I have not been enamored with horn parts on the song. What a surprise - this version has quickly become my favorite version of /5(69).
Jul 11, · Just broke open the seal on an original Cannonball Adderley/Bill Evans "Know What I Mean" mono copy. The sound is absolutely terrible! The opening piano solo on the "Waltz for Debby" track was so wobbly it was a pain to listen to. The entire album sounded equally bad, as if the mics or equipments had a very limited head room and/or dynamic range.
